In loving memory of Jean Douglas, who, fell in love with the village of Ednam the first time she saw it. Upon retiring from teaching, over 30 years ago, she decided to try to do something for the village. She learned to write code and built and maintained this website for around 25 years, constantly updating and modifying the content to include more people and bring joy to the lives of not only locals but to people from around the globe. This was especially vital during the COVID-19 pandemic when travel was restricted and people depended on the site for news and views from the village. With around 20,000 hits per year, she reached and brought joy to many people. To leave messages of condolence please email jeandouglas@ednam.org Updated on behalf of Jean Douglas, who passed away in the early hours of May 30, 2024 |

Welcome to the Village of Ednam website. Ednam is a small vibrant community in the heart of the Scottish borders, situated only a mile or so from The Market town of Kelso. Places nearby include Stichill, Sprouston, Nenthorn, Eccles, Gordon, Greenlaw as well as Floors Castle. The village was formerly in Roxburghshire. Its name is a corruption of the Anglo-Saxon "Edenham", i.e. the town on Eden Water. Near the village is a knoll called The Piper´s Grave. It is named after a legend that a local piper once went searching for fairies in the hill, and was never seen again. The story of Ednam began over 900 years ago. There has been a church on this site since 1105AD. Enjoy the website, and find out about Ednam´s famous sons and feel free to get in touch with us on our contact page CLICK HERE Thank you to over 21000 visitors to our website over the last year. |
